The Season

Why Hunt Late Season in the Finger Lakes

December 5th through January 10th brings some of the best waterfowl action of the year in the Finger Lakes. Cold fronts push migrating birds south hard and fast — divers, puddle ducks, and Canada geese all concentrate around open water as the region freezes up around them.

The Finger Lakes don't freeze over completely like smaller bodies of water, which makes them a reliable stop on the flyway even in hard winters. Our guides track bird movement daily and place setups where the birds actually are — not where they were last week.

Groups of 4–8 hunters. This is a tighter limit than early season — if you have a larger group, reach out and we'll discuss options.
